Sarawak's Rafting Challenge in Baleh-Kapit

The Baleh-Kapit Raft Safari is an adventurous event from 3-5 April 2020 that brings people closer to the water networks of Sarawak while reminding them of its importance in transporting people around, especially in rural areas.

The Baleh-Kapit Raft Safari 2020 is an annual rafting competition held along the Rejang River in Sarawak, East Malaysia.   It is a challenging race that takes competitors through swift rivers and whirlpools.

Baleh-Kapit raft Safari is a two-day rafting contest organized by the Tourism Task Group of Kapit.  It has been a much-anticipated event in the area since its inaugural event in 1996.

There are five main categories in this competition: Men’s Bamboo Open, Men’s Bamboo Closed (Inter-Department) and Women’s Bamboo Open, as well as the mixed Free Style and Paddle Boat.

The first flag-off point is at Rumah Ansi, Nanga Sepajie at Sungai Majau, and the second flag-off point is at Rumah Along at Nanga Majau, and each flag-off is estimated to take six to seven hours respectively.

This event is to remind people of the importance of water transport in the past of Sarawak as well as the present, particularly in places where road networks have not yet reached.
